Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] tasyfa's (among others) recent post, here are a few of my favorite emo songs. Just to be a little different, the newest of these dates to 10 years ago, the oldest, River, is 35 years old--1971. (Which amazes me to realize that!) Just goes to show that emo wasn't invented with Jimmy Eat World. :-)

Edit: OK, I added a Green Day Song from 1998.

River - Joni Mitchell The saddest Christmas carol ever written, but so beautiful. If you only download one, this is it.

Backstreets - Bruce Springteen A deep, layered song about a relationship ended by infidelity, made more poignant by Bruce's tortured growling voice.

A Long December - Counting Crows I listened to this song over and over one December when I was in a bit of a sub-clinical depression a few years back. But my favorite line was always ...maybe this year will be better than the last...--a glimmer of hope.

Lightning Crashes - Live How can a song about a woman dying in childbirth not be sad? But even more than the lyrics, the melody is just so evocative by itself.

Driving With The Brakes On - Del Amitri Del Amitri was a Scottish pop/folk/rock group from the 90s that only achieved cult status in the US. Have you ever known that you should break up with someone, but you just can't? I always loved Justin Currie's beautiful throaty voice, but even more so on this song.

Heart of the Matter - Don Henley Most you are familiar with this actually uplifting song about finally coming to terms with a relationship that ended badly.

Alison - Elvis Costello Perhaps my favorite song about unrequited love. Billie Joe Armstrong will be performing at a tribute show for EC in May and I am praying he does this song (and we get a recording of it of course).

Redundant - Green Day I didn't see any Green Day on anyone's list. This is, to me, the song that fits in this category the best.

Yay for external hard drives! Yay, I say! I now have four!! Two dedicated to Green Day goodness, one for backing up the laptop, and one for backing up the desktop. Thank God they're getting cheaper.

No problem with the Warfield files chica. Do you need the high quality files for burning to CD, or just for computer/ipod listening?

I...oooohh. Higher-quality files if you please, miss! *claps hands in delight*

And DAYUM, two whole external drives devoted to our boys? You must have a LOT more shit than I do. *stares* how big are your drives? Mine's 160 gigs... woah.

I'm a geek...My desktop's internal drive is 160 GB, one external drive (named GreenDay, ahem) is 80 GB, and I just added a 30 GB external drive that used to be the backup drive for my old desktop. And then I went out and bought a 250GB hard drive, just so I could back up the desktop + the GreenDay drive, because several years ago I had a hard drive failure and had to spend $400 to get my data back. It taught me a lesson!

When every DVD is 4 GB or so, disk space gets gobbled really quickly. (And then add pics and music...) I know I should just burn and delete, but I don't know, I'm a geek.

And I'll get those files up for you tonight.

I luff youuuu. And I'd much rather have it all on hard drives than on CD's I will inevitably LOSE or that will wind up as coasters, because I'm responsible like that. >.> and YAY! *snuggles*

If you have a FireWire (IEEE 1394) connection on your computer, I recommend these drives: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/owc-neptune-drives/

It's a Mac website, but the drives will work fine on a PC, and they're cheap!

I have 4 of these.

Click on the 1st link and see if you have a plug shaped like the one pictured, or with the little y-shaped symbol over it.

You can get some good deals at places like Fry's or Staples or Office Max on USB drives when stuff goes on sale. This is from Fry's and uses a USB connection.
