Oooh! What's that? A post? From revid? Wow, what's next? A Green Day CD?

Yeah, and I can't even claim to have been really busy or anything. As a matter of fact, it's been just the opposite. I've had a bunch of days off (part-time work rocks, lemme tell you!), and my life has been rather, how shall I say it?, BORING. But as I was saying to [livejournal.com profile] and_ed, I like boring!

I've been catching up on my reading, mostly my magazines, but also a few books. I went to the library (yay for libraries!) and checked out a couple, most notably Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. This was recommended to me by [livejournal.com profile] feels_like_fire (the poster formerly known as koneko41) after I asked her what the big deal was about this guy I had never heard of that so many 20-somethings with LJs are enthralled by. Only about 40 pages into it so far, but it's pretty funny, actually. Also read Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris, who wrote another most interesting book called The End of Faith. He makes very simple and cogent arguments for the non-existence of God. Very persuasive. Lastly, I just finished Fatal Depth: Deep Sea Diving, China Fever, and the Wreck of the Andrea Doria, about scuba diving on the Andrea Doria, a passenger ship that sank in 1956 off the coast of NY/NJ. It's in 250 feet of water, which makes it an advanced and potentially dangerous dive. I'll never do it, but I like reading about it.

Speaking of diving, I signed up for another trip. It's like crack cocaine, I tell you! It's on The Archipelago Advenurer II, a nine day charter in the Banda Sea of Indonesia. My dive buddy Wendy tells me this area has one of the highest concentrations of sea life species in the world. It's about a year from now, March of 2008. So you know what this means, don't you? Green Day had better not release that fucking CD until next spring either!

A guy at work heard me listening to AFI and asked if they had replaced Green Day for me.
Uh...no.
Much as I love my glitter princess, that will never come to pass.

On the self improvement front, I've gotten serious about running again. It's been on and off for about two years, but a few months ago, spurred on by another one of those birthdays, I decided to make more of an effort. So as incentive, I've signed up for a local 10K race next month. There will be about 300 or so other runners, which is big enough to ensure that I won't DFL (Dead Fucking Last) the race. If I finish in less than an hour, I'll be pleased. I've got the TiVo set for the Boston Marathon tomorrow morning, so I can see what real suffering is like.

So that's me. Three minutes of your life you'll never get back. Maybe next time I'll just post a meme or something.

Yay for an update...its been so long without one from you, I read this one twice. ;)

The dive trip sounds fabulous. Hopefully the boys will cooperate - because you better be around when I finally get back to Cali. =)

I even have a Neil icon, lol

I love Neil Gaiman. He's probably my favourite author, and Good Omens is a good example of why. If you like it, check out Stardust, American Gods, and, my personal favourite, Neverwhere. His short story collections (Smoke and Mirrors and Fragile Things) are also fabulous, and full of sweet, creepy, clever, imaginative ideas. His children's books are pretty rad too!

I also love Neil because he's very funny, keeps in close touch with his fans (his blog is so accessible and so fun to read. It's here (http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/index.html) if you're interested), and he's just an all-round great guy. :)

*licks you*
Nothing really to contribute other than to say it's nice to hear from ya! Also reading about that dive and actually being a diver sounds very awesome and intense :]
Ugh! Running...sorry man, never been able to dig it. Bike riding or a brisk walk perhaps, but running has never had much appeal for me. Good on you though for being so ambitious.
*ponders* Have you changed your journal layout again or has it been so long since I've trapesed around in here I've forgotten the "remodel"? :D

Yay, an update!! :) The new diving trip sounds heavenly and makes me wish I were a diver so I could come with. And congrats on the self-improvement! Though you don't need to do that. You're already perfect. But eh? I guess we could all improve a little huh? Or just stay healthy. :)

XOXOXOXOXO :)

If you want to read American Gods as Helen suggested, I can totally mail it to you when I dig it out this summer. I enjoyed it, but it's not something I'll ever reread so I'd be happy to send it along to a new home. :-)

And I can't quite imagine that whatever kind of shape you'll be in while running *your* marathon (go you!) will involve the kind of weather the poor Boston marathoners had to deal with today, thank goodness!

Hey - boring is always better than tearing-your-hair-out-stressful. High five to boring any day over that nonsense! And thanks for the book recommendation - I looked this Neil Gaiman guy up on Amazon after reading your comment and I might check out some of the recs from you and others here.

And good luck on the running thing - I've always wanted to want to run (if you know what I mean!) but I have to be honest - I never will actually do it. My hubby does and loves it, and has done a few 10Ks - good luck to you, and let us know how you do if you decide to go for it!
