AI quick thoughts
Mar. 17th, 2009 07:17 pmWow. Adam. Honey. What was that? I loved it, don't get me wrong, but I'm not exactly AI's core demographic either. "Ring of Fire" in 80s glam rock style FTW.
I'm actually calling a swing and a miss. But props to you for going for the bleachers, OK? And maybe you should have played it safe and done "I Can't Make You Love Me". but then you would have blended in with everyone else. I'm calling this the most controversial performance of a song EVER on Idol. But tone down the eye-fucking. Just because I want to fuck you doesn't mean that everyone else does.
And yet... I liked it better than anything else I heard the whole night. And spare me the "How dare he defile Johnny Cash" bullshit. Cash did vastly different takes on other people's songs all the time. ("Hurt", anyone?)
And that mentor country star with a face like a dried up apple core? "We don't see too many boys wearin' nail polish where I'm from." Then you need to get out more, you idiot. (Plus, I'm getting this vague recollection that this was the guy who married the manager 20 years his senior when the rumors about his "preferences" were getting a bit too loud. Now it makes sense.)
The judges tonight were all acting like someone pissed in their cornflakes. They bitch the contestants out for being too different, then they bitch them out for being too the same. I hate these god-awful theme nights, and country is the WORST. Why not let them pick what songs they do best?
As much as I love Adam, I am growing to hate Danny. He just bugs me. He sang "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and as someone on TWoP said: Jesus take the wheel, please, and steer into the oncoming semi so that I never have to put up with his self-important preaching again. SO MUCH WORD.
So Adam, next time, you GOTTA play it safe, OK babe. Still flove you man, though.

Date: 2009-03-18 04:33 am (UTC)Anywhoo, I was out in the living room when AI was on, and I felt compelled to sit down and watch. :D I blame you entirely though, because if not for your mad Adam love, I would not have been intrigued enough ;)

Date: 2009-03-18 05:37 am (UTC)So that leaves the three I liked tonight...Alison, who was great and the best girl by light years. Kris, who was so good that even though I'm not a ballad-y person too often, actually made me wanna download that song and Matt, who gets forgiven for resembling Timberlake by being awesome.
I think its a crap shoot who goes home, but my money's on Sarver or Megan. And I hope Adam and Danny both can redeem themselves next week. =)

Date: 2009-03-18 05:43 am (UTC)Anoop got the most improved award, for sure.
Definitely Sarver or Megan (Caw! Caw! Cough! Cough!) need to be packing bags.

Date: 2009-03-18 06:27 am (UTC)I've been listening to the mp3, and the more I listen, the more I like it. I can't wait to hear the studio version. I wouldn't be surprised if Simon does his little back-pedal number tomorrow, too.

Date: 2009-03-18 07:10 am (UTC)Haha, best response ever. We are completely on the same page. That, too, was my reaction, but that was also why I looooved it. The only bad thing was that it felt terribly short to me! And some of those notes? Oh my god. It doesn't seem possible to hit some of the notes he does. It was so ridiculously different and unexpected (even from him, that's not what I was expecting!) and no one can ever, ever negatively critique him on originality. If he doesn't make it all the way to the end I'll never understand what happened, besides the fact that the producers cheat.

I KNOW! I mean, Paula basically tells Allision, 'hey! listen, we've heard it all before', but then Lil says "I was trying to show different things" and they say "no, that's not who you are, sing what you always sing". They make no friggin sense.
I'm growing to hate Danny too! It came out of nowhere for me, but I like him less and less each week. I mean, just, uh uh.
P.S. Adam's sex eyes, FTW.
