Look who's here...
Feb. 9th, 2009 04:40 pmWow. I only posted once in the entire month of January. I'm not sure what that was all about but I'll try to do better.
In the news that has most of my flist all atwitter: GREEN DAY! They're (coming) back! Finally. Yesterday was the official start of the revival of this long dormant fandom. I loved so much about their appearance on the Grammys last night! First, of course, was the announcement of the new CD this May, 21st Century Breakdown. I put my pre-order in last night, and my receipt order number ended in 0008. :-) The eighth person to order it! I can't tell you how excited I am for this album. The receipt also said "Street Date May 15, 2009." This doesn't make a lot of sense, since the 15th is a Friday, and all records are released on Tuesdays, so I'm guessing the "official" release date will be the 12th or 19th.
I thought it was pretty cool they gave them the closing spot with the Album of the Year presentation. One thing I will say about them, no matter how big or famous they are, every time I see them I am reminded that they are still just a bunch of 17 yo dorks from working-class Rodeo, California. I'm sure Billie's 13 yo son rolls his eyes in embarrassment at his dad the rock star, just like all 13 yo boys do at their un-famous parents.
They looked great but for one thing: THE HAIR! What's up with that guys? Billie looked like a small furry mammal took up residence and then died on his head! Mike should have learned that the platinum blond thing just is not his best look, but the worst part was not the color but the flat, slicked-down look. Pump up the volume, dude. He looks like that guy from Everclear. And Tré? Well, the fauxhawk is a little long in the tooth after 5 years.
The shirt Billie is wearing? Looks mighty familiar. Ignore the crazed fangirl molesting him:

Yes, Billie wore the same shirt that he wore during the very first Foxoboro Hot Tubs show in Oakland last May! SUCH A DORK!
I will save your flist by linking to the photos in

And under the heading "When Fandoms collide..." Seeing Robert Plant accepting a Grammy from Billie Joe Armstrong? Holy Cow! It was pretty cute to see how Billie was clearly in Fanboy awe. Like every other kid of a certain age learning the guitar (including yours truly!), I'm sure Billie must've taught himself to play "Stairway to Heaven" when he was a kid (a song that was released when he was one year old!)
But my favorite part was Billie's "See you next year at the Grammys!" because we all know they'll be nominated and performing! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
(An interesting aside: Blink-182 announced last night that they are re-uniting. Billboard.com has reported a RUMOR that they could possible be the opening act on Green Day's next tour! OH, REVENGE of the 2002 POP DISASTER TOUR MY FRIENDS, heeheeheehee. Yes, revenge is a dish best served cold!)
There's been mixed news about my pretend boyfriend Gale Harold.
It's been almost four months since his near-fatal motorcycle accident. The excellent good news is that he has been seen out and about, and other than appearing very skinny (which he always has been anyway), that he is looking good. He was at the San Francisco premiere of an indie documentary about a British musician named Scott Walker, of which he was a financial backer. Two reports, one from a fan on imbd, and one from a blogger for the gay website afterelton.com, both said that he appeared animated and healthy and "normal." The LA premiere is next week, so we're hoping that he shows up there as well (he lives in Burbank) and we get more reports.
The mixed news it that they don't seem to be making any attempt to write him back into his role on "Desperate Housewives." Or maybe he isn't quite that well yet. Who knows? They are currently filming episode 17 (out of 22) and there are no spoilers or rumors indicating his imminent return. I really hope they do. Because as I've said before, I am incredibly happy that he is alive, but if he isn't acting, then well, he doesn't exist, if you know what I mean, since I don't know him personally. (Which, of course, is a CRYING SHAME, but that's neither here nor there. :-) )
Random personal stuff:
I made a spur of the moment decision today to dye my hair back to brown again. I've been blonde so long that most people I know have never seen it any other way. No particular reason, just feel like it. :-)
I've decided to start going to the library at least once a month. Man does not live on fanfiction alone, you know! (And when someone asks you what you've read lately, it's nice to be able to say something you could tell your grandma about.) I'm reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert right now. I'm also working my way (SLOWLY) through the second Harry Potter book in español.
House is still for sale. 'Nuff said.
Off to watch last weeks ep of SPN. Still resisting the giant sucking vortex of that fandom though. :-)

Date: 2009-02-10 01:15 am (UTC)Other than that, there's nothing to know about him that hasn't been recounted again and again. Well, 5 more DH episodes so we'll soon know if he's back this season.
Will you keep your hair brown? It's easy to miss the blond.

Date: 2009-02-10 06:18 am (UTC)I know, it's kinda sad and frustrating at the same time! I'm not sure he'll be on DH for this season, but there's always a chance they can bring him back for next season with new storylines. I really hope we get a sighting at next week's movie showing.
It's funny, the brown hair doesn't look all that different to me. :-) I think it's because in my head, no matter how long I was blonde, I still always saw myself as a brunette. So we'll see how long it lasts!

Date: 2009-02-10 03:44 am (UTC)After I chatted with you I went back and placed my pre-order. I was wondering how you knew you were #8. Based on what you said, looks like I'm #162. I thought the same thing when I saw the "street date".
Yes, it was mighty fine seeing those adorkable boyz. It's amazing and refreshing to see how much they seemingly have stayed true to themselves. I love them all so much!
*squishes them madly*
I know I commented in somebody's journal last night that I thought that was one of The Rev's shirts XD.
*bwahahaha!* Revid and The Rev!
As far as your hair color? Well, you're just setting an example for Mr. Dirnt ;]
I bet it looks lovely.
Great to hear that your pbf is doing better!

Date: 2009-02-10 04:43 am (UTC)I have nothing to say about Green Day that I didn't say last night, so I'll just put a big fat SQUEE! here and leave it at that. ♥ Though I am epically amused at the idea of Blink being an opening act for Green Day during a tour later this year... don't really think it's very likely, tbh, but DAMN it's a funny idea. ^^

Date: 2009-02-10 06:44 am (UTC)I'm still literally high from all the GD-SQUEE!! And damn! The boys are still looking so good :)

My thoughts exactly :) Whenever I see their precious faces, I still see the entirely-too-skinny NERDS who captured my heart when I was about 12/13 years old. :D
And I am SO down for the possible Blink/GD shows! Throw in some MCR & my life would be made! I can't stand Tom Delonge but I was always a Blink fan. Never enough to see them in concert (as a headliner) but that'd be an awesome opener for GD!!
*flails around*
When do we get new Mary Pics? I'd love to see!!! :D I'm sure you look awesome as a brunette. :)
*HUGS!*

Date: 2009-02-10 07:32 am (UTC)Nice to hear Gale's out and about, though of course it sucks that he's not back on the show. Maybe he'll make it back by the finale and then be back next season.
I want to see a picture of the brown hair, man...I bet you look awesome with darker hair. =)

Date: 2009-02-11 02:30 am (UTC)OK - late to the comment here, so I pretty much agree with everything everyone else has said :)
So much squee on the flist - it's just wonderful to see everyone posting and commenting, and just so happy. I love our boys so much - when I think about all the acts at the Grammy's that night, GD would have to be right up there in the top 5 of "biggest" but you'd never know it from their look and Billie's dorky-awkward everything. You can take the boys out of Rodeo and put them in big fancy houses, but I don't think you can ever take the Rodeo (or the Gilman) out of those boys. And THAT is why they are awesome.
Also, a big YES to pics of the new hair colour - I want to make sure I can still recognize you when I get to Cali for the Great Green Day Meet Up 2009 :)

Date: 2009-02-11 09:23 pm (UTC)2) Metallica actually released Death Magnetic on a Friday - we thought the date was off, but no, they just said fuck you to everyone's system and picked their own date. It would not surprise me if Green Day did the same.

I did not know that about the Metallica release date...good to know!!!
