She's alive!
Sep. 8th, 2008 05:50 pmHi flisties! Sorry I've been MIA again. Bunch of stupid stuff going on.
This is the first time I've been A) Unemployed and B) Not In School since June 1981. Twenty-seven years! Getting laid off from a job you've had for 9 years in not my idea of fun. However, as hoped, I have a new job starting in October. It's still a commute, but it will be a good temporary position while I get my act together preparing to move to the glorious city of San Francisco, probably next year sometime.
Finally, the work on my deck is starting tomorrow. And I'm getting an estimate for painting the trim. Oh, the joys of owning a home.
I've also got a bright, shiny, glittery new fandom to explore in Queer As Folk, with dozens of comms, hundreds of fics and thousands of pictures to review, taking up my free time. I can't believe that I've actually set my TiVo to record Desperate Housewives just to see Gale Harold.
How badly does it suck that in less than 2 weeks it will be four years since Green Day last released an album? (That would be a rhetorical question, flisties.)
I'm not a big Harry Potter fan, but I still find this interesting. JK Rowling won her lawsuit against a "lexicon" publisher.
foresthouse (who is an attorney) is explaining it in English in her LJ. (Be sure to read the footnotes!)

Guess that's it for now. :-)

The whole job thing sucks, but you were looking to change anyway. What direction are you driving now for the new one?
I've been pretty spun out on the ol' nostalgia trip of late. Thinking (and dreaming) about the OTB and tons of personal issues. Too much reality closing in...25yrs of marriage and turning 50. It just isn't possible :[
Glad you're enjoying your new fascination.

Date: 2008-09-09 04:35 am (UTC)I might be the very first Eljay user to have EVERY PERSON ON HER FL living in the same city. ;) I'm excited for you, though!
And *flaily arms* for your QAF love. I really need to get my act together and actually watch more than the first two seasons (which I've seen 10 hojillion times).

Date: 2008-09-09 01:03 pm (UTC)Well, Happy Unemployment I guess! :) Enjoy the month until you start the new (temporary) job - a little time off can't be bad, right?
Good and bad news on the house fix-ups - it probably seems even crappier to have to pay for unsexy stuff like house repairs, on a house that you plan on leaving soon. Bright side - hopefully you can sell faster and get to SF faster.
I hear you on bright shiny new fandoms (although mine is populated by teenage boys rather than hot guys having sex with each other - apparently I'm doing something wrong here???) - I think I am hitting bottom on my GD withdrawal/depression. I haven't actually listened to a CD all the way through in quite a while now - mostly I just hear them on shuffle. I've decided to hold out a bit more, then lock myself in a room and listen to all of AI front to back and then have a good cry. Like therapy. I haven't even been lurking over at GDC in ages. *sigh*
In happier news however, that icon ^^ made me laugh right out loud and snort coffee up my nose this morning. So sad, yet so true!! Thank you America, for the gift of your politics :)

Date: 2008-09-09 05:42 pm (UTC)++Yay for new fandom playgrounds.
++Four years. That's just...painful. *sniff*
++Thanks for the link to the HP story. I'm not a fan, either, but I have read news reports on the ongoing suit and I was rather stunned that someone would have the cajones to try such blatant copyright infringement. I'm glad Rowling won...and I was much amused by the snark level in that post you linked. =)
++LOL at the icon.
