A most wonderful and happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] my_own_beat_now, who makes our little corner of the LJ-verse that much brighter!

(Did I ever tell you how much I LOVE your username, BTW?)

I'm off tomorrow for a week (or so) to beautiful Holland. One of my best friends lives there now (in The Hague), and she's been bugging me for ages to come visit her, so off I go, Passport in one hand, Platinum Visa card in the other (amusing since The Netherlands doesn't require a real visa for US citizens, but it will certainly require the other one...the Euro is at $1.50! OUCH!)

We don't have any real big plans, which is fine. The whole country is so tiny, so I imagine I'll be able to see anything I want to. But why is it that the first thing everyone wants to know is whether I'll be visiting the redlight district or partaking of any ...inhaled... refreshment? :-D I will have sporadic internet access while I'm there, so I won't miss anything major, I hope. It's going to be odd to be in a later time zone than anyone on my flist.

Since [livejournal.com profile] and_ed demanded to know where her flist has been, I say:

Yep, I got nothing. Unless you want to hear about my exciting deck contractor negotiations or the sad sad death of my cell phone. Did have a great time with [livejournal.com profile] feels_like_fire up in the city last week. We saw Alkaline Trio and had fun just bumming around and eating and drinking. I'm really looking forward to living there.

Is there anyone out there who has seen both the US and the UK versions of Queer As Folk? I just finished watching both recently and would love to hear someone else's opinion.

OK, off to finish packing. I'm going carry-on only, which I was planning to do anyway, but I just found out the USAirways is now charging for the FIRST checked bag, as well as $1 for water and $2 for sodas. Jeez. I bet they start charging for the loo next! I remember the days when flying used to be fun. :-/

Safe travels to [livejournal.com profile] leighrowena, and I hope everyone else is doing well!

Thanks Mary! I've been having a pretty good birthday all 'round, I must say. Sharing it with the kidlet makes it that much more interesting ;)

You know - when I finally decided to join LJ and leave the land of the lurkers, I thought for ages over what username to take. And I've honestly always loved my name too. I really wanted something GD-related, but not overly obvious. But it also really fit in well with the whole "WTF/deal with it" attitude that I had at the time, and why I felt I wanted to take the plunge into internet-land. I really felt like it was time to strike out on my own path, and march to my own beat now, as someone we love would say!!

Holland!! Wow. That's a pretty cool trip. Enjoy yourself and have a blast. *hugs*
