Wow, I'm speechless. Last night was fucking insane. Or at least Billie Joe Armstrong is fucking insane. He was completely blotto, but there's more to it than that. I may have some deep psychoanalysis later on what has to be a pathological desire to be loved, to be touched, to be freakin' dry raped on stage...but for now let's say I have never seen a frontman perform like that. Ever. He was over the top. I was afraid for his personal safety at a few points, but clearly he never was.

I have to go hit the road for West Hollywood right now, so details will come, but I leave you with my favorite moment. While he's introducing the band, when he gets to Mike, he doesn't use the stage name. Instead, he goes up behind him and completely wraps his arm around his head so Mike's chin is in the crook of his elbow, and says "my best friend, Mike Dirnt!" and kisses him. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

I agree with you on the psychoanalysis - I've been wondering the same thing. The reviews seem to show the stage stuff getting wilder and more out of control at every step. What goes on inside that man's head will be a continual source of fascination to me.

And I read this review earlier this morning that alluded to our Billie's inebriated state - I was waiting for your input. I think our boy is going to need a good long rest and a bit of detox after these shows. No wonder the "tour" is only 10 nights long! I don't think he could take any more ;)

Actually, I've thought about this more, and it sort of sounds like he's sacrificing himself to the fans? That sounds crazy, but it's like a good kind of sacrifice. And it fits into all the religious symbolism associated with the band.
