That's the odor of my credit card smoking from overuse today. But unlike termite abatement and deck repair, at least I'll be having fun when the smoke clears.

I booked airfare and hotel for 7 days in Cozumel, Mexico over Thanksgiving week. I got invited to fill up the roster on a trip with a small but great group of divers who head there every year. We should get to go to dive sites that the cattle boats don't go to, and I haven't dived Coz in 15 years, so I'm very excited about this trip.

Then I got a text from [livejournal.com profile] feels_like_fire who heard a rumor from a co-worker that Alkaline Trio were going to play in Davis on 6 June, and could I pleasepleaseplease check and see if tickets were on sale. Well, there was no Davis show listed, but lo and behold, AK3 are playing a local venue a whopping 12 miles from my home the previous day! So, god bless the internet, and conveniently I hadn't even put my card away from the dive trip purchase yet.

In Green Day news (such as it is), as expected, the article in today's NME had nothing that we hadn't already heard. However, I actually appreciated the author's outline of where Green Day are right now and how they got there. I thought it was well thought out and articulated. The scans can be found over on Green Day Authority.

Is it possible for human beings to "jump the shark?" Because if so, Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson really and truly have.

I think the kid with the dreads goes home on American Idol tonight. Blondie went home. Dreads goes next week. I still continue to be madly in love with David Cook, who has more talent than the other four combined. But could they please let him sing a song from this century?

Yeah, so what if he's young enough to be my son? Stop looking at me like that!

AHAHAHAHAHA YES! AshWentzday have totally jumped the shark. That is a brilliant way to describe this entire debacle. *awards a gold star*

The NME article *was* good, despite having no real new information. Though some of the 'bits' were more fleshed out than I'd seen previously. And I laughed at the "Underdeveloped counting skills" comment. (Also? It was really fucking nice to read the actual magazine. Hee.)

Cozumel sounds amazing. I've always wanted to explore the Aztec and Mayan ruins down in that part of the world. One thing at a time, though!

About 20 years ago, I went to Cancun with some girlfriends. One day we took the bus trip to the ruins at Chichen Itza, which turned out to be the highlight of the trip. The several hour drive through the Yucatan peninsula was also interesting by itself.

A lovely place whether you dive or not.

Chichen Itza is absolutely fascinating. Anyone ever in that area of Mexico should make that trip.

Ugh. Ashlee and Pete are both douchebags and totally deserve each other. Although it scares me that they are procreating (is that still a rumor or is that confirmed yet or what?).

That's what credit cards are for! It sounds like you'll have a lot of fun, so it's all worth it, isn't it?

I found it interesting that People magazine put it in their intro, yet didn't say a word in the interview about it. WTF?

I am totally a "thats what money is for" kinda gal. :-)

That is exactly what I have been thinking and been unable to describe.

It sort of reminds me when I watched The X Files, how around S8 it got so bad you had no choice but to sit back and watch as entire episodes centered around buttgenies and hallucinated Brady Bunch family members. That's how I feel about AshWentzday right now. They're both utter vapid douchebags and anything endearing about Pete has gone completely out the window...but good God, are they for real? It's the bandom equivallent of "that monster did NOT just kill that guy by climbing up his ass."

Between this and the vagina comment at the White House dinner afterparty, Pete is really keepin' it classy.

Does it make me a terrible person that I'm waiting to see what the Pete/Ashlee fans on my flist have to say in defense of all of this lately? Hahaha...oh god, they're having children like this. :puts face in hands and crawls back to Matchbox Twenty:

I wonder if "Heroes" fandom is hiring for new fangirls...

Heehee, I've totally been getting into David too - I feel like a bit of a dork for following Idol, because I never really have before, but then they went and pulled out an adorable rocker boy and, predictably, I am hooked. I think Syesha will go home before Jason Castro though - he seems to have a huge (mainly screaming and female) fanbase.

Ewww, Pete and Ashlee. Is it possible to be more icky and self-absorbed than those two? Yuck.

Andrea! Just last night I was mentally ticking through the Canadians on my flist, and was hoping you'd make a reappearance!

David Cook's may be the first AI contestant CD that I buy. I hope he comes in second place though, so he doesn't have to put up with their bullshit.

I never thought I'd say this but right now I wish Pete and Ashlee would just go away. Or at least Ashlee. I'm not sure why she bothers me so much, but she just does. Oh well :p

As for Mexico, that's AWESOME!!! Have some margaritas for me. ;)

Thanks for the video! David Cook is pretty awesome even if I don't watch AI anymore. Oh and SCORE on the AK3 show! That's totally awesome! :)

She's kind of like a super-assistant that you can have sex with. Most.Romantic.Comment.Ever. *eyeroll* Please be going away now? I think the hair gel has finally started to seep into Peter's brain and destroy any cells left. I liked him so much better when he just took dick pictures. And as Ashlee has a name that ends in a thousand vowels all in a row, which is always a warning sign for me, I don't expect much from her. Never have a couple been so made for each other ;)

Awesome news on the Cozumel trip - I've been to that area of Mexico twice and it's really nice. I've always heard that Cozumel has beautiful diving. And hey - credit cards are not meant to be hidden away in your purse right?!?!!

....yes.

Poor Patrick. Haha, with the exception of the "Beat It" video I'm inclined to agree with you though: he's very rarely anything other than utterly adorable. That said, I would hit that so hard he lost consciousness. I think it's the fact that he comes across as so genuine and well-spoken. It's attractive!

Pete used to be my guilty "I would hit that like the fist of an angry God and then bathe in bleach afterwards" celebrity crush. But between his disgusting comments lately and the vague but disturbing odor of chauvenism/misogyny hanging over a lot of those comments (combined with the fact he's sticking it in a Simpson), I have now lost all sense of his attractiveness. I'd have sex with Spencer Smith first. And Spencer Smith has a vagina on his face. :(

Oh, I've been to Cozumel once, and I loved it there! Always wanted to go back, and that was in '92. Someday! I don't do scuba, but I did snorkel there, and omg, the water and everything in it is just so gorgeous! We also rented a jeep there, and I learned to drive a stick - I'll never forget it.

Thanks for posting that AI vid. I haven't been watching this season at all, and it seems now that I am missing out. That perfomance was more than awesome. I'm not looking at you - I swear, I'm not! He's how old? Over 18? Ok, now stop looking at me like that! haha. ;)

David Cook is 25 I believe, so it's not a horrible oookkk factor; after all, that makes him a grown man. But still. ;-)

Here's his best performance of the season: Michael Jackson's Billie Jean

And Coz is a great vacation spot even if you don't dive.

Wow, thanks for that one, too! And thanks for identifying it beforehand - I think it would've taken me a little bit to figure that one out. What a wonderfully soulful and sexy arrangement of that song! He has a great voice - I may just have to watch the last few episodes.

One thing I liked about Cozumel is that it was quiet and not a real hot-spot with high-rise hotels everywhere. That was a long time ago, and I'm not sure if it's stayed that way. We drove to this out of the way beach, and we were the only ones there - it was just really great. Something to look forward to - have fun!

The last time I was in Coz was '93. It was right before the cruise ships started docking there. That was a huge change to the island, sadly. I understand it has built up considerably with the resort hotels and the gringo bars:Carlos and Charlie's, Senor Frogs, Papas and Beers. All catering to the 18-22 spring break crowd. Yuck. Fortunately, most of them don't dive and they only stay within 3 blocks of the pier.

Sounds like mostly good use of the credit card. (minus the home repair) The dive sounds fun. You will be fine in Mexico. There wont be any spring breakers there in Novemeber. Should be beautiful then too!!! I havent seen idol at all this year, and its fine with me if he is half your age.....haha. Ashlee and Pete?? Ha.

The price of NME has gone up since the last time I bought it...£2.20, man, ow. And I have to disagree with Ben Myers's comment (which is odd, because I usually like his interviews) on them:

"They seem like a band that are sometimes uncomfortable with being this big stadium rock act."

Er, didn't Billie mention in at least half of the hojillion interviews they did for AI that they finally learned to get over that and not be ashamed with putting on a big rock show? Hmm.

I think it would have been more true to say they miss being a club band, rather than that they dislike being rock stars.

Yay for another dive trip!

Really really yay for Alkaline Trio!

Really really really yay for ANY GD press, man. (How sad is THAT? - the notion that I'm excited about it, I mean...not the press itself)

Massive MASSIVE fail for the Wentz-Simpson follies. She seems to have sucked whatever little bit of charm he used to have right out his dick, man. And now they're pro-creating? Sowrong.

And a final yay for David Cook. I have been watching American Idol all along (uber!dork, thy name is Barb) but this is the first time I've ever been this invested in one participant. I fully intend to be buying his album - which will make it the first American Idol contestand CD I've ever owned. Young enough to be your son? Nah. Maybe just a really hot nephew. ;)

I think David comes in 2nd. (Little David, 1st; Sy-whatever, 3rd; Dreads 4th) It will be best for him too.
