Well, of the 900 pics i brought back from Indonesia on the lappy (of the 2000 I actually took! Hey, digital film is free!) I managed to winnow down to 100 that I uploaded to Photobucket to share and 74 to Shutterfly to print. Here are a few with comments--it's easier then a real trip report. :-)

A typical dive briefing diagram. This was an amazing dive site--I think we did it three or four times.

On the last night at dinner the crew performed a few traditional Indonesian songs for us. It was wonderful; they were wonderful.

A Titan triggerfish. They are about 9-12 inches long. I have seen and photographed them before without trepidation. This trip was different. Normally I would trash a shot like this, but this was the best I had. The triggerfish were nesting in the sandy bottom near the reef. They are very, very aggressive about their "airspace" around and above their nest, and I thought I was out of the no-fly zone, watching them chase smaller fish out of the area. Suddenly, he took exception to my presence and came after me at what seemed like 30 miles per hour. Needless to say, I turned and swam and kicked as hard as I could! For the rest of the trip I was scared shitless of them--more scared than I've ever been of a shark. Turns out that three people were attacked by titan triggers on this trip. Dave was the unluckiest.

This was from a Titan triggerfish through a 3mm neoprene wetsuit!

This is the octopus in the barrel sponge getting pissed off at me and changing colors.

A juvenile ribbon eel. They are solid yellow when mature.

Simon and Ali. That picture completely captures Ali's personality. He had an absolutely manic laugh!

A pretty little nudibranch.

A friendly pair of two different species of morey eels.

This was a octopus out hunting on a night dive. He was completely unperturbed by our presence.

A snowflake morey. They're pretty.

I thought this was a really cool pattern on the sea star.

A mini reef scene with some pretty blue tunicates.

This creature is the aptly named Christmas Tree worm.

I took this picture of a baby sea cucumber because it reminded me of one of [livejournal.com profile] thelackey's icons.

Another very unusual nudibranch -- that's Greek for naked lung. That's what that fuzzy structure on his back is.

Two frog fish, the black one and the green one above it and to the left. I hadn't seen the green one until the DM pointed it out to me.

I liked the way this leaf scorpion fish posed for me.

The mandarin fish is quite pretty, but quite shy.

Like this seahorse.

This ethereal looking creature is a ghost pipefish. It is being backlit by the video lights of another diver.

Nemo. :-D

Find the fishy.

When I first saw this Giant Cuttlefish just hanging out over the reef I was so surprised I yelped outloud. He was probably 18-24 inches long but he looked like a damn VW Bus to me. That's one damn freaky creature.

In contrast, this is a Flamboyant Cuttle fish. Note the fingertip for scale.

How nice of this yellow frogfish to pose on the barrel sponge for us.

This lionfish was nestled between the arms of a sea star and a piece of a garbage bag.

For those of you on dial up, or those of you whose eyes haven't glazed over entirely, you can see the rest of the photos here:

Such beautiful photos Mary - glad you had such a wonderful time, and thanks for sharing your colorful adventures! The ocean always intimidates me somewhat - I can snorkle, but don't know if I could ever scuba dive. And just the thought of a little fishy racing after me at 30 mph...well, that's enough to make stay on the outer edge of the waves and let them run over my feet only. :D
