Our lives on Holiday...
Oct. 22nd, 2007 08:20 pmBack from 5 sweet days in Maui, Hawaii.
We had two lovely studio condos for seven of us, and had plenty of space. The resort was called ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villias, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Very comfortable and low key.
The condo:

The view from the balcony:

The schedule was also low key...get up, get something to eat, go for a walk or a run, go snorkle, go to Lahina and shop and/or eat, hang around the condo and drink, read, whatever. My kind of vacation.
The view from the beach directly in front of the condo:

The large rock to the south is Black Rock, the most famous snorkle spot on Kaanapali Beach. However, right near our condo was a little reef called Airport Reef, which I thought was even better ( and far less crowded.) At Airport Reef I saw an octopus, a spotted morey swimming out in the open (uncommon), a HUGE spotted puffer fish, and at least 20 different species of tropical fish, including the humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Sadly...I left my underwater camera at home! :-(
Snokeling Black Rock was amazing for one reason though: TURTLES! There were 5 or 6 Green Sea turtles just hanging out in 2-6 ft of water, completely unperturbed by all the yahoos splashing around them. One big boy was at least 3-4 feet long. I just floated there on the surface and watched them swim under and around me. So fun.
South side of Black Rock:

We took a drive a little farther north one morning and stopped at this pretty black sand beach:

Sunset from a restaurant in Lahina looking out toward Lanai (and a cruise ship. :-/):

Another sunset shot:

Flying is such a drag these days, but our flights on ATA airlines out of LAX (non-stop to Maui) were on time and relatively painless.
Now I get to be all excited again because
feels_like_fire and
sick_of_me03 are coming to visit me this week! YAY!!
