Yeah, so I decided to bite the bullet and get a permanent account. It's only money, after all. And I've become such an icon slut. I told
shoegal_icons at
pink_cosmos that she was partially to blame. If you're looking for icons, check hers out. </pimp>

news, people were riding the drama llama pretty hard over the permanent account sale. There's still a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth over Strikeout 2007. My humble opinion? Some people need to build a bridge and get over it. LJ admitted they fucked up and they're trying to correct it. But, still, on every page there are these posts from people with their inflated sense of importance wailing "I can't buy a perm account because I don't know if I can trust you, LJ. Woe, woe." So, you feel that way? Fine. Then don't buy one. Just STFU about it, OK? No one really cares anymore about your opinion.
*pets poor drama llama*
In other news, I am outta here this afternoon. Fiji, here I come. Two wonderful weeks diving my brains out on the Fiji Aggressor III. As always, I will miss you all. (But I'd better not miss anything good, dammit. I want tohear aboutsee those pix of Mike naked or whatever when I get back.)
There are a few important events that will occur in my absence:
Happy Birthday wishes go out to:
sick_of_me03 27 June
oh_johnny_ 27 June
oneandonlytrey 27 June
mikeyface 29 June
My Dad (who, thank god, has never even heard of LJ) 1 July (OMG, he's 79!)
luthien123 4 July
and a very Happy 13th Wedding Anniversary to the lovely Billie Joe and Adrienne Nesser Armstrong on 2 July.
Take care of yourselves while I'm gone, OK?
P.S. I uploaded a so-so quality .wmv copy of the infamous Green Day 1991 Tour Video here, if anyone would like it. It's 85 MB. Billie's Willy makes an appearance around minute 31, for those that might be interested.

Date: 2007-06-26 10:06 am (UTC)The corruption of minors thing came from having to sit through a meeting chaired by a Senior Child Protection Officer over here who gave out a load of case studies and asked whether or not people should be banned from working with under 18s.
One of the case studies was about a teacher working with 17 year olds who recommended that his class read the book Trainspotting and quoted bits of Lady Chatterley's Lover during a class. The CPO said that he should be reported and given a verbal warning for recommending inappropriate material. It was put into the same category as a teacher's aide who who went to a 15 year olds birthday party and took alcohol which he then gave to all the kids at the party.
My own thoughts on this are to rail against censorship and to be severely fucking offended on behalf of under 18 year olds everywhere. I don't think that reading is ever inappropriate, regardless of the subject matter just so long as it's balanced out if there is a danger of the reader, regardless of age, getting confused but the thinking from the government seems to be that because someone hasn't reached their 18th birthday they're incapable of choosing not to copy anything that they read. So offensive it's almost unbelievable. It might just apply to people who actually work with under 18s but it's kind of ridiculous in a pathetic way and a bit scary.
It's the main reason my journal is now completely locked and, on a lesser and more silly note, I'm blaming it for why I can't seem to write NC17 stuff anymore and seriously debating whether I should lock any previous NC17 stuff.
Heh, I'm a Ranty McRantPants today :D
I love that video! And I'd lost it off my hard drive, so more yay! Heh! "Yes Billie, no one will ever see it! Just carry on." :D
