Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list 10 of your favorite songs that begin with that letter.

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] angie_aiken gave me the letter F, and here's what I came up with.

In alphabetical order:

Fair Exchange Be Bop Deluxe -- Sunburst Finish

70s British Guitar God Glam Rock at its finest. What I like about this song is how Bill Nelson pokes fun at himself and it all:

Here we come in a cloud, stars in our eyes
Standing up proud -- it's the perfect disguise
We've got so much to give, so much to gain
Just give me your money, and I'll give you my pain
It's a fair exchange

Fall On Me R.E.M -- Life's Rich Pageant

One of R.E.M.'s most melodic songs, which is why it's one of my favorites.

Buy the sky and sell the sky and tell the sky and tell the sky

Don't fall on me (What is it up in the air for) (It's gonna fall)
Fall on me (If it's there for long) (It's gonna fall)
Fall on me (It's over it's over me) (It's gonna fall)

Fast Car Tracy Chapman -- Tracy Chapman

This was the first song I ever heard by Tracy Chapman. It was one of those experiences where you recall the first time that you hear a song because your head whips around as you exclaim "Who is that?" A poignant song about a woman who finally realizes that her boyfriend/lover/husband will never grow up.

You got a fast car
I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I’d always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me'd find it
I got no plans I ain’t going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving.

Favorite Son Green Day -- Rock Against Bush

I'd love to know who this song is about...based on the lyrics, I doubt it's Dubya.

A fixture on the talkshows,
To the silver screen.
From here to Colorado,
He's a sex machine.
It's your favorite son
It's your favorite son.

The Finer Things Steve Winwood -- Arc of a Diver

Excuse me while I get all emo here. I had always associated this song with a man that I had had a complicated relationship with, which ended poorly. A few months ago I was randomly googling old friend's names, and when I googled his (which is an unusual name), I came up with a newspaper article that described his death in a single car accident about six month previously. Ow.

While there is time
Let's go out and feel everything
If you hold me
I will let you into my dream
For time is a river rolling into nowhere
We must live while we can
And we'll drink our cup of laughter

The finer things keep shining through
The way my soul gets lost in you
The finer things I feel in me
The golden dance life could be.

Fix You Coldplay -- X & Y

I liked this song when I heard it on the radio, but I really grew fond of it when I saw the video, particularly the look of surprise on Chris Martin's face near the end when the audience takes over singing the lyrics.

Fool In the Rain Led Zeppelin -- In Through the Out Door

Easily the poppiest pop song ever recorded by the Zep, so much fun to sing along to!

And I'll run in the rain 'til I'm breathless,
When I'm breathless I'll run 'til I drop,
And the thoughts of a fool kind of careless,
I'm just a fool waiting on the wrong block.

For A Dancer Jackson Browne -- Late For the Sky

One of Jackson's more depressing songs, about a friend's suicide, but I've always loved the hope in the last verse.

Into a dancer you have grown
From a seed somebody else has thrown
Go on ahead and throw some seeds of your own
And somewhere between the time you arrive
And the time you go
May lie a reason you were alive
But you'll never know

Found Out About You Gin Blossoms -- New Miserable Experience

This is the kind of song that you turn the stereo up full blast, roll down the windows, and sing at the top of your lungs going down the freeway! This poor guy who is the last to know:

Rumors follow everywhere you go,
Then you left and I was last to know,
Well you're famous now and there's no doubt,
All the places you hang out,
They know your name and know what you're about...

Whispers at the bus stop,
I heard about nights out in the school yard,
I found out about you...

Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding Elton John Good Bye Yellow Brick Road

The classic Elton instrumental, with Love Lies Bleeding attached. 'Nuff said.

That took longer than I thought. :-)

I think a "W" should be fruitful. :-)
