I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I am fucking STOKED that Green Day is going to be on American Idol. I could not care less if they play there, or a Carnival Cruise Ship, or Dollywood or Celene Dion's theatre in Las Vegas. I just want want them to play! It's a charity album they're promoting.

C'mon guys, you don't really mean it when you say it's just awful that they're on TV tonight, do you?

You would rather not see them at all?

Really?

Going to set the VCR now! (don't need to watch AI. UGH. ^_^)

We'll squee together later, yes? YES. ♥

I am stoked at the idea that there are once again going to be random appearances by the boys on TV. I take it to mean that the album is complete enough that they can take time to do public appearances again. :D

God, I hope you're right!

I'm really out of touch with Green Days news because I knew nothing about this. :p The only downside is that I'll have to watch American Idol at all. It's not like I watch all of the Superbowl, Grammys or any of those other awards shows they pop up on either.

It's OK, we all just found out this morning. You can always tape it and FF through the drivel!

*throws in two cents*

Woo for playing, double woo for promoting a charity album.
Triple un-woo for choosing American Idol to promote it.

Alright, yeah, high viewing figures = more people seeing performance = possibility of more people buying the album. I just think it's possible to pick a more, I don't know, respectable show to promote such a meaningful song on. For rly. Also, haven't band stated that they dislike American Idol? That burns us, precioussss.

I didn't watch the AI charity show because I knew how painful it would be. But if GD were on it? You bet I would have.

I'd rather see Green Day on a 2 hour Green Day Live! special, but since that's not happening, American Idol it is! I'm not choosy.

See, I can't take it that seriously. It really is only rock and roll. It just reminds me of all the silly "Green Day sold out" wank, or all the folks who got their panties in a wad because you "can't" cover John Lennon.

If they want to play the Mickey Mouse Club, I'm there!

Agreed for all the reasons you stated! I'm still cringing at the thought of all this. However, I do look forward to seeing the guys again, even if the circumstances are a bit embarrassing.

The only way they could redeem this is if they could somehow rig the show to make Sanjaya the secret surprise winner (yes, I got sucked into the Sanjaya hype. shut up!)

Sanjaya! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Like I said, I'm not picky. The last time they played live was last September 2006 at the Superdome, and the time before that was December 2005. I'm jonesing big time!

My initial response this morning was to squee out loud just at the thought of GD live on my tv tonight...then I thought about it a bit and kind of went...weh? I mean, I watch American Idol but I'm totally aware of the cheese factor there as I'm doing it. I just couldn't see it as something the guys would do...until you pointed out the charity aspect which hadn't even occured to me - because I'm slow, okay? ;) - and now I'm back to omigodyayGDonmytv. So now I'm gonna be totally bummed if they're NOT there. Hey, its been a busy day in my head. ;)

So who on the East Coast is gonna watch and make the first report? And are you gonna be on line at work for me to email or post with news?

I'm assuming they'll be on around 6:30 California time. I'm going to try to be online, but I don't know if I can.

Marisa has to watch the Lost finale.

Angie, will you come through for us?!!!

I love that you know that about me. I did have to watch the Lost finale, but I'd set the DVR to record the second hour of Idol while we started Lost. Thank God for the DVR, man. Seriously!

And put me in the camp of being surprised to hear they were perfoming, but not caring beyond that. Idol is a machine, a pure, ratings and influence machine, and the most important piece of popular culture this country has pretty much ever had. Billie Joe is a smart guy, so it was bound to happen someday. At least it's for charity!

It is the number one rated show...and there's no such thing as bad publicity. At least they didn't make them mug with the contestants.

How was Lost? :-)

I'm watching it! I was going to watch it anyway just to see Sanjaya again! I can't actually post the video or anything, but I can let people know if they are actually on or not.

My first thought was, "Huh? Ew. What?" followed by remembering what Jon Bon Jovi said about his recent stint on AI - the only other ep I've watched in eons, lol. Admittedly, Jon is hardly the same kind of artist as GD, but he had some smart words about how the music industry is changing and nowadays, you take the avenues you can find to get the word out about your music. Green Day has a new single, and it's for a charity they believe in, and this is a venue that will reach millions. Even I can do that math! ;-D

Oh, and I will post if I see anything!

Thanks for the heads-up on the timing. I was able to sneak into the x-ray lounge and catch it broadcast here. Also got Jenbly's wonderful rip too. :-)

It's true! They were there and they fucking rocked! And I have it all on tape (well, their bit anyway). And they looked stunning.

But I tell you this, no truer love hath any woman than to sit through that much crap for the diamond buried in it. But for Green Day *and* John Lennon? No way I was going to miss this.

Wasn't the ending awesome?
We had Tas clue us in as to the appearence time, so we didn't have to sit through the whole thing. Unfortunately, I caught that abomination of Sanjaya and the guy from Aerosmith. *shudder*

The ending just made me all melty, yes.

And Joe Perry with Sanjaya - talk about your wtf moments. Not quite as bad as the two finalists butchering "I Saw Her Standing There" though, which is how the show opened. That one caused me physical pain - and an urgent wish that I could still drink gin (or any other alcohol for that matter).
