revidSo I ran a 10K (6.2 miles) race this morning. For reference, the last time I ran a 10K was circa 1985 or thereabouts.
It's a good-sized local race called the Bull Canyon Run, named after the road that most of the race is run on. This year there were over 700 entrants spread among the 10K run, 5K run, and 5K walk.
I thought the hardest part was going to be getting my butt out of bed to make it to the 8 AM start. I was wrong. While I was thoroughly well-trained for this distance, all my training has been treadmill or beach, i.e. flat. Unfortunately, Bull Canyon Road is a hill. A looooong hill. Like a hill from Km 2 - 5. I had to walk up the very last part of it even. Picking up the pace going downhill on the way back was more fun, but it's never a wash. You always lose more than you gain. Ouch.
My goal was to finish in under an hour. 59:32 baby! I figure on a flat course I could probably have shaved another 2 minutes off that time. I'll take it, either way. My PR back in 1985 was 49:55, so I have another goal. (Of course, I was 20 freaking years younger then too!) Official results come out tomorrow, but I placed 109th in the entire field (men and women) and maybe 20th among the women.

feels_like_fire wishing me a great day. I didn't see it until later of course, but at the time it arrived I was powering through, talking to myself: "only two more miles, only two more miles, you can do it, two more miles." At that moment, I wasn't thinking it was so great, but it feels pretty good now! Thanks hon!
Next up: The Strawberry Stampede in two weeks, but I'm only going to do the 5K. Goal: 28:00. Wish me luck. :-)
