Ooooh, my first friends-locked post. I guess that's a milestone, since it implies that I have enough friends to lock a post to!

In the spirit of music sharing rolling around my f-list, I present the best Green Day audio bootleg ever!!! I'm so excited I get to share this.

I got my hands on a bootleg audio recording of the Green Day show at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, CA on 13 October 2005. This was one of the two "secret" club shows that Green Day did at the end of the AI tour last year. The other show was at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA, which was broadcast live on AOL. The boys were in rare form that night, in one of their we're gonna play 'till they kick up out moods. Here is the set list (Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] _somniac_)

-Shout! [The Isley Brothers] (right in the middle of this there were a few teases: Bright Side of Life [Monty Python], and about half of Stand By Me [Ben E. King])
-I Fought the Law (And the Law Won) (reprise) [Bobby Fuller]

**************************************

This is a 3-CD set. The quality is excellent for an audience recording. The audio files are in flac format, which is a high quality lossless format. For Mac users, they can be played and burned to audio CD by Toast, or just played by VLC. PC users can also play them with VLC. I'm not much help with what to use to burn this to disc with on a PC, but this link from the flac website should be helpful.

The guy who got this requested that it NOT be shared in mp3 or other lossy formats. You are, of course, free to convert to mp3 or AAC for your own use, but when you share the files, you should share the flac originals as well, and please don't post any public d/l links of this recording in mp3. Thank you for honoring this request.

Anyone of you talented folks want to make up some CD cover art for these? Pretty please? :-)

Disc 1: AI through Homecoming: http://www.sendspace.com/file/sgvvip (Warfield#1)

Disc 2: Whatshername through Basket Case: http://www.sendspace.com/file/cso7hp (Warfield #2)

Disc 3: Blitzkrieg Bop through I Fought the Law (reprise): http://www.sendspace.com/file/6rv526 (Warfield #3)

I locked this post to give my f-list first shot at the links before they expire or die. Feel free to share them in a few days, but please pass along my request about mp3s to anyone you share the links with. Thanks.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

Edited to add: I also got a specific request NOT to post this on GDA, so, OK.

Aaaaaaaack, I'm not sure if it's just me, but these are zip files, right? Because part three has downloaded, but my computer doesn't recognize it - it's just a file that it doesn't seem able to open. ;_;

Yes, Disc 3 should unzip to seven audio file. Are you still having problems with it? If so did you try to re-d/l the file again? Try opening it with your unzip program (rather than double-clicking.)

From: [identity profile] canis-takahari.livejournal.com
It's weird, actually. I'm not having a problem with the audio or anything. It's just that when it finished downloading, the file didn't read .zip; looks like my computer can't recognize it for some reason. But my Winrar program opened it fine, which is confusing. Ah well, I can access the files (and I downloaded VLC to play them), so I guess there's no problem after all. Thanks. ^^

It's totally worth it to have VLC anyway. It plays all your audio and video, and you can set up the songs as a playlist, so it will play them in sequence like a CD.

What are you having trouble with? Converting to mp3? Or playing? There's a ton of freeware that will do that stuff.

I find the easiest way to do it is to burn the audio disc, then use iTunes to convert from the audio disc to mp3/aac.

Did you check that d/l link in thee post?

Oh man, I'm so excited! Thank you SO much!

Ooooh, my first friends-locked post. I guess that's a milestone, since it implies that I have enough friends to lock a post to! Hehehe, I know the feeling, so many wonderful new friends out here in LJ land.

Oh wow, I'm SO excited!!

I know you'll love this!

And it cracks me up that I joined to read CC, but now spend 99% of my time with my f-list!

Date: 2006-03-01 07:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] luthien123.livejournal.com
Oh man I know, I joined basically so I could save fics to memories, lol. But now I hardly read anything, except when I go back and re-read fics I already know I like, or when I'm lucky enough to stumble upon something I haven't read by an author I like. I for sure spend MUCH more time with my flist. That's excellent though, I love my flist, and it's a great outlet for my clearly massive GD obsession in all it's aspects, not just the slashy ones, lol.

From: [identity profile] revid.livejournal.com
I feel sort of guilty about neglecting CC sometimes. I try to make the effort to read every one where the author states it's her first fic however, because, after all, where would we be if no one had read our first efforts? There's a new series over there where the author is going A to Z through kinks...a rather interesting concept.

Date: 2006-03-01 09:01 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] luthien123.livejournal.com
Oh yes- I'll read the first fics ever, because I remember how terrifying that was, and how important all the comments were. I mean, I want to encourage people to keep writing...but I just don't have gobs and gobs of time to go through everything. I'll usually click on things I see that aren't long running series and try reading, though sometimes I can't, uh, finish...yeah. I'll check out this kinks idea though, it does sound interesting :)

And I meant also to say, THANK YOU! *facepalm* It's early for me and I plead flailing excitement to the edge of tears, lol.

I also feel slightly mean b/c listening to this beauty, I'm glad that my friend who is a big fan but NOT obsessed like moi (which has caused some friction in recent months) didn't get to go to this concert. I think the envy would have eaten me! :-/

My pleasure.

Well, our dear friend [livejournal.com profile] _somniac_ was there, but I've found it in my heart to forgive her! ;-)

I was sitting on my computer at 9:59 when the tickets went on sale, and spent the next two days wearing out my fingers trying to get tickets, to no avail. Still breaks my heart!

Wanted to check first - my music comm, [livejournal.com profile] audiography, coincidentally enough is having a Bootleg theme this week. :D I'd like to share, complete with rules - which they will abide by; it's a great comm. I'd like to put it on my flist too, locked. Would that be all right, my dear?

And while I'm at it, let me add a massive SQUEE b/c I have been LOVING listening to this. I need to figure out wtf I'm doing to get the files converted so that I can get it in the car! :D Thanks again. *smooches*

Thanks for asking Tas! Posting to the music community is probably OK, people like that usually understand and respect requests.

If you wouldn't mind, could you wait a week or two before posting it to your f-list? There's this silly little pissing contest going on between gDLo http://gdlo.serveftp.net (where I got this) and GDA about posting stuff obtained originally by gDLo. I only partially understand it, since anyone who's smart enough to figure out how to use bittorrent can register at gDLo and get it themselves, but to be frank, most of the 13 yo at GDA aren't smart enough.

My feeling is that once those bits are on the internet, the cat's out of the bag, and eventually it will become widely available, and you can't stop it. But the guy that posted this is real sensitive about it right now, and I know at least a couple of your friends are GDA regulars (yeah, I looked...honest, I'm not a stalker!), including the woman who was the video forum mod.

My name here is different than the one I use on GDA and gDLo, so it's unlikely to get traced back to me, but I don't want to get in the middle of this silliness. So, sorry to be so long winded, but if you would wait a week or two before posting to the f-list, that would be great.

Thanks!

That is exactly why I asked, darlin'. And I'd be perfectly happy to filter out people from my flist too, i.e., jinxed, who is honestly still there only b/c I don't have the heart to defriend her. I know her situation sucks bad but I've long since had it with the woe is me drama queen act. In any case, since I'm rarely at GDA anymore, you let me know when it seems to be clear sailing and I shall wait. I'll wait on the music comm too, just b/c I know there are some people there who are friends with people on my flist (although said friends would be among those mature enough to abide by the rules). :)

Heh, it ain't just the young teens who have bittorrent issues. I joined gDLo and went through setting up my router, but could only get incoming, and didn't manage to get it fixed to also allow outgoing (required there as you know) before finding out that w/e I was doing allowed my mom's network adapter - she piggybacks on my 'net connection - to glom onto the neighbour's cable signal instead of *mine*, and after 3 hours on the phone with tech assist getting it sorted out I never bothered trying to go back to gDLo LOLOL.

Date: 2006-03-03 04:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] revid.livejournal.com
Yeah, the bittorrent thing can be tricky. I have the perfect setup, my own computer, my own DSL connection, no router, no firewall (I have a Mac, so viruses leave me alone). I've downloaded over 100 GB of stuff (Holy Crap! I didn't realize it was so much!) from gDLo, so if there's anything you see there that you can't live without, let me know.

The tempest in a teapot should die down quickly. Like I said, the bootleg trading world has been forever changed by the internet, and the days of keeping "the good stuff" to yourself is ending. (This is a good thing.) I imagine a week will be enough.

Thanks for being so understanding dear!

Thanks for permission, doll! *smooches* I think it's asinine to want to keep a bootleg to yourself, personally. I know that if *I* had a great quality one, I would be falling all over myself to make sure other people could enjoy it too. Yeesh, I even foisted my crappy concert photos on people b/c I wanted to share, LOL.
