Happy LJ-versary to MEEEEEEEEEE!
Jan. 8th, 2007 12:00 amWell, here's the last in my long line of anniversary posts over the last few months. It's my one year LJ-versary today. And it's no exaggeration to say that getting an LiveJournal account has changed my life.
After lurking around
comingclean for 2 months or so, I got this bright idea that maybe I could try writing something too. (Never mind the fact that I hadn't written anything resembling fiction for decades.) I spent a good week or so laboring over a story until I thought it was as ready as it would ever be for posting. Of course, posting something on CC would require me to actually sign up for a LiveJournal, so I bit the bullet, and created it the morning of 8 January 2005. I didn't want to use the name I used on other websites, because after all, I was going to be writing PORN, so I came up with a not-so-clever variant to use. I went so far as to get a different free email account just for LJ use using that name as well. A long time was spent reading the introductory info on CC, so as not to incur the wrath of the powers that be...including getting those tricky LJ cuts just right! Then with more trepidation than I had remembered experiencing in ages, I closed my eyes and hit the post key.
Much to my surprise, people actually said some nice things about what I wrote. And I still remember the first person to friend me was
letterbomb_baby -- Thank you Sheena! I posted all three parts of the story on that day, and within a week I had probably half a dozen friends. I recall thinking at the time that if I had maybe a dozen to 15 friends that that would be really cool.
So here it is, a year later. I have over 40 names on my flist. I've met 10 of you in person (so far!) from all over the US. Because of you all, I've gotten back into music in general, and live music in particular, discovered new bands, read some amazing literature, porny or not, met fucking Green Day(!), and I feel like I've made true friends...not just internet friends, but real friends, whether I've actually ever been in the same room as you or not.
At the time, I figured I'd post twice a month or so. This is my 145th post, or almost one every other day. Which is deceiving actually, because in December I posted 24 times. I've made over 3500 comments in other people's journals (about 10 per day!) and received over 1700 comments in my own. I remember the time when I realized that even though I had joined for CC, at some point I wasn't looking there much anymore, I was just looking at my flist. And we won't talk about what happened when I finally broke down and signed up for an AIM account!
It's hard for me to imagine my life without you all in it. As I've said before, your presence has enriched it immeasurably. Thank you all.
