So I get home today and notice what appears to be a few drops of cat urine on a leather couch...hmmm, not good. Then I notice my 11 year old orange tabby Pumpkin, keeps going to the litter box every 10 minutes and sits there for a minute, then leaves...with no urine output. I ping [livejournal.com profile] _somniac_ and she tells me what I sort of already knew...

not good, especially for a male kitty.

So I dilly-dally for a little bit more, but realize nothing is changing, even though he looks OK and is acting pretty normal (i.e. annoying me while I'm on the computer.)

I bring him to the Pet ER and they do blood and urine testing and an ultrasound and find...not much. He did have a fever, so she suspects a urinary tract infection. So she puts him on an antibiotic (amoxicillin/clavulanate -- the human brand name is Augmentin) and gives him kitty narcs (buprenex). He's home now looking rather...subdued, but OK. I'm still traumatized, however. Not to mention $400 poorer.

Of course, he once again lives up to his nickname: PITA-cat. (That's Pain In The Ass). I'm leaving tomorrow evening for Ohio to go see Alkaline Trio in Chicago with [livejournal.com profile] koneko41 and [livejournal.com profile] booshgal33. Fortunately one of my friends will come in every day to check on him and give him his meds.

It's a good thing I love the furry little bastard.

Thank you! The belly rub is much appreciated. It's all shaven because they did an ultrasound. He's definitely looking better now.
