So, it's 21 September 2008.

Four years since the release of Green Day's American Idiot, an album which I can honestly say changed my life in most unexpected and wonderful ways.

It's also the start of what I call in my mind Anniversary Season.

  • 21 September -- The release of American Idiot (2004)
  • 1 October -- The first time I saw Green Day in concert (2005)
  • 10 October -- The first time I met Green Day (with [livejournal.com profile] mikeyface) (2006)
  • 9 December -- BOBD on The Tonight Show: The day my obsession with the band started (2004)
  • 8 January -- The day I signed up for a LiveJournal (2006)

  • In the words of Jerry Garcia: What a long, strange trip it's been. And I wouldn't change it for all the money in the world.

    I concur.

Aw, I like your timeline! It's a lot like mine, although I'm a couple of months later for the events. Obsession with the band for me started at that Grammy performance (February 2005, maybe? I should know better, they won that Top Grammy Moments show for goodness' sake!) I was a closet obsessor until I joined the Idiot Club in September 2005. First concert was October 17, 2005. Unfortunately, that was either the last one or the next to last one in the States. I had been too much in the closet to speak up about my desire to see the earlier shows in Columbus, Cinicinnati, Inidanapolis, and Louisville - all easily driveable venues. I could kick myself for that now, of course...

Definitely a life changing year for me as well.

    *sigh*

Man.....four years has gone so fastpainfully slowly :( And now for the understatement of the century - this is killing me. But at least I made a bunch of awesome friends out of it! I would however now like to have my awesome friends and my band, all together at the same time. I don't think this is asking for a lot *glares in the direction of the East Bay*

You know, I never really think of it in terms of the ALBUM changed my life, as much as the band, but in actual fact, it WAS the album...it was the album American Idiot that led me to the band and, ultimately, to every single person currently on my flist with only two exceptions (My Lackey, of course, and [livejournal.com profile] digital_diva.

So yeah, I'm so with you on the wouldn't change a thing, even if we, god forbid, never heard from the guys again. But I can't help but remain hopelessly optimistic that we will.

*is all sniffly and nostalgic now*

Its hard to imagine that it has already been four years. I saw them in May of 05 when I took my kids to the concert, and that was the beginning of my obsession with this band..I keep waiting for it to wear off, but it never does.
I am beginning to think it never will. Which is fine by me.
Of course I am getting anxious like everyone else, but really they were so busy with the tour and awards until Spring of 06. I figgure they need a break for a year then back to work. Less than a year later we get new pinhead and FHT. I am sure when they release what they have it will be worth the wait. AND FYI my inside sources say they are working very hard especially lately, we wont have to wait much longer. : )

I don't know what I'd do without you guys, that's for sure!

Oh tell me about it. I could have seen GD late in 2004 at 3000 people venues before AI blew up. Not to mention a couple years earlier when they played 90 minutes from here with The Living End as the openers. GRRRRR.

It is really neat that so many of sort of came around at the same time. Sadly, we were all a little late to the party, weren't we? I found LJ, some found IC, some found GDC, but that's what makes it explode: finding other people who feel the same way.

That Grammy performance of AI was stunning.

I'm with the "painfully slow" camp. I hope [livejournal.com profile] loser_and_user's sources are correct and our long drought ends soon.

    *glares with you*

It's pretty amazing when you think about it. I never would have guessed what one 57 minute recording could bring about.

I know what you mean about feeling pretty sure that the obsession will never end. I can never imagine not going to see Green Day in concert ever, even if they're like the Eagles and charge $250 a pop. I can never imagine not buying the next Green Day album.

As much fun as PHGP and FHT were (Holy Fuck! I was onstage with my arm around Billie Joe Armstrong!), I still want my Green Day. I hope your sources are right. :-)
