Much ado about nothing...
Jul. 31st, 2007 05:21 pmHappy Tuesday Flisties! I believe I will celebrate by making it Wine Tuesday shortly. I haven't been keeping it in the house much, because it tends to interfere with weight loss plans, but I was at the supermarket today, and it just jumped into my cart. (Sort of like the cilantro-lime tortilla chips did.) It's nice to have food in the house again...canned tuna and frozen broccoli can get old.
I also managed to get a haircut today for the first time in ages. Nothing special, but months of hair dye and two weeks of scuba diving turned it into a mass of lovely straw dangling from my head. She cut about 4 inches off and layered it in the back, so it's just below my shoulders. Ahhhh, I feel so much lighter.
I went to the Library for the express purpose of getting out books on London, and they were all checked out, save one! What's a girl to do to find out where to go? I know! I'll ask my flist! All of you that have been: What should I absolutely not miss in London? Check out the schedule of bands for the Reading Festival! Damn! that's going to be fun. Oh yes, and just because why the hell not,
sylvee,
beelzezuk and I are planning to go see Greenish Day in Brighton on 1 September. Pencil that date in,
looking_spiffy!
In other news, my internet connection has been totally wonky for the last day or so. I can't figure it out. LJ loads OK (thank the gods) but GDA and ScubaDiving.com just hang forever trying to load. And my AIM ID (revidlj) is dead, dead, dead. Will. Not. Come. Online. I can't even log on to the AIM website to try it there, since that page won't load either. I tried another browser, I quit my chat client, I disconnected and re-connected by broadband link, I even restarted the computer. Nada. So hit me up on greendayrocksmyworld@gmail.com (shut up!) on MSN or Gtalk, or pismodiver on AIM. In the meantime I continue to gnash my teeth in frustration.
It's been taking me awhile (read: I've been procrastinating) to get my Fiji pics up, but here's one:

Me getting a manicure from a cleaner shrimp. They will come right up and clean your cuticles for you.

Date: 2007-08-01 02:17 am (UTC)I haven't been in London in - oh dear God - 23 years (jesus but I'm old) so I have nothing to recommend. Other than not getting into a cab that subsequently gets into a car chase, nor to have plane tickets out on a day when there's a one day airline strike so that you spend seven hours sitting on your suitcase in a standby line in a terminal that's several fricking miles away from the terminal in which any plane you might actually get on would be leaving from, not that I'm bitter - but you could probably have figured that out for yourself.
My internet connection is also being odd - but I think it's Bell having problems rather than anything on my end. Keep on disconnecting and reconnecting and eventually it really does decide it would be easier just to let everything load. I think the phone lines get crabby in the heat :-)

Date: 2007-08-01 03:14 am (UTC)I think we've talked about London must-sees, but I know I truly loved Westminster Abbey and the Parliament Houses for straight-up British landmarks, Leicester Square for feeling like a part of it all, Notting Hill for how cute it is, and the British Museum and the Tate Modern for museums. But honestly, just walk down any random street. London is amazing no matter what you're doing.

Date: 2007-08-01 04:36 am (UTC)I have, as you know, no constructive advice to offer on the computer probs, but in other totally un-helpful news, that is one very cool shrimp pic.

Date: 2007-08-01 09:53 am (UTC)First order of business in London is Camden. It's like Mecca for goths, punks, hippies and everyone inbetween. Then there's Soho, which contains London's gay community and is right next to both Chinatown and Picadilly Circus. The London Eye is also rather impressive, though I've never been on it, and obviously there's Abbey Road, too. :)

Date: 2007-08-01 09:02 pm (UTC)Sounds like a fine London experience! I am taking a carry-on only, no checked bag, to avoid some of the airport unpleasantness.
My internet funk seems to have lifted this morning! GDA and ScubaDiving.com are now loading, and revidlj is back on line! YAY, all is right with the world.

I didn't have Notting Hill on my list, so I will add that now. Thanks!

Date: 2007-08-01 09:29 pm (UTC)Thanks for the tips. I don't know if we'll be in Brighton for the day. That depends on Elz and Sylvie, one of whom will end up being our chauffeur most likely. (I'm not driving on the wrong side of the road!)
