Gratuitous Video Post
Jul. 16th, 2007 11:35 pmIt's amazing how much little stuff there is to catch up with when you've been gone for a while. At least the large stacks of paper and junk on the kitchen counter is shrinking.
I find no small irony in the fact that the only injury I received on my trip was a pulled muscle in my back, loading my suitcase into the trunk of my car coming home. I'm also highly annoyed by how hard is was to run 5 miles yesterday and how sore I was today after two weeks off.
And the real reason for this post. I had finished my safety stop and was headed towards the surface when this moon jelly appeared in front of me about 5 feet from the surface. They're pretty cool.

Date: 2007-07-17 08:14 am (UTC)I once had some Jelly tentacles brush against my leg during a dive. It itched like a son of a bitch for 2 weeks.

Date: 2007-07-17 02:36 pm (UTC)That is seriously amazing, though, I love how they move. BUT ALL THOSE LITTLE HAIRS OH MY GOD, THEY STING. My cousin caught a tiny one in a plastic cup once and terrorized me with it. THE SMALL ONES HURT MOST.

Date: 2007-07-18 01:24 am (UTC)While I can admire the beauty and wonder of nature along with the next person, and that is definately a very cool vid, I have to agree with the majority of the comments and say.....ICK to jellyfish. Because I could never hack it under water :)
See, here's the thing - when I was younger (oh say.....about 13 I think) I took a trip out to Nova Scotia. We stayed at an absolutely beautiful little place, like you can only find in Nova Scotia (they only have beautiful little places there - that and rocks). The only not so cool thing, was that the beach and the ocean were alive with jellyfish. My cousin and I used to get this morbid joy out of walking the beach after the tide went out with big giant sticks, and picking up all the jellyfish that were left stranded in the sand and hurling them with our sticks against the rocks. We were teaching those babies a lesson! One they apparently didn't learn, as they kept stinging us when we swam. I guess we didn't show them quite like we thought.
The other random bit from that summer trip, was that somewhere along the very long car ride from Ontario, I picked up these earrings, made out of feathers - dyed blue and white. They pretty much touched my shoulders. I thought they were the coolest things ever. Not so much now when I look back at pictures :) Perhaps they were actually roach clips. I wasn't especially cool when I was 13. Not like now *snort*
