A bit more info on this topic, dug up by [livejournal.com profile] thelackey, this from the Obedient Sons web site:

OBEDIENT SONS ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP
WITH GREEN DAY’S MIKE DIRNT

NEW YORK, NY and LOS ANGELES, CA: Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt and fashion designer Swaim Hutson proudly announce a new partnership in Hutson’s six-year-old clothing line, OBEDIENT SONS. “When something speaks to you, listen,” says Dirnt who continues, “I invest personally, and emotionally in what I believe.”

Several years ago, Dirnt purchased an OBS jacket at an exclusive retailer in California and immediately sought out Hutson. At their first meeting, Dirnt bought fourteen pieces of Obedient Sons A/W 05 Collection, “Lost Beats” and the two became fast friends based on a shared passion for music and culture. They soon learned they shared a birthday under the sign of Taurus as well as a bullheaded desire to express their worldviews through art, politics, and fashion.

“Swaim just kept blowing me away with his diversity and style,” says Dirnt. Know as a unique voice of dissent and passion, OBEDIENT SONS is an award winning fashion line for men which presents seasonal collections ranging from jackets, pants, button-downs, knits to limited accessories.

Also:

One of the biggest challenges faced by young designers is to establish solid partnerships and associations in order to create a successful brand. After some trial and error, Hutson found a solution to this very challenge, which developed from establishing a loyal fan of the line. Mike Dirnt, the bassist in the band Green Day, purchased items from the collection from a retail store in Los Angeles, which became staples in his wardrobe. This lead Dirnt to contact Hutson directly to purchase additional pieces, as well as have Hutson create custom clothing for stage appearances and red carpet events and subsequently the two became fast friends. In May of 2006, Dirnt became a partner in Hutson’s six-year old label and this partnership has established a new platform for the brand to expand and evolve, while continuing to exist within an ongoing cultural dialogue.

Shoving aside the piles of work on my desk to join you in procrastinationville...

This is really very cool, that he went, I like this product, I'm gonna support this guy. And then they became friends. Awesome. Further evidence, as if we needed it, that Mike Dirnt is a good guy. And custom tour wardrobe? I wonder if he made the Han Solo pants. If so, Deb owes him a thank you note. ;)

lol

I was thinking of that while reading the article. Also, I think a thank you note from all us is needed if he is also responsible for those tight pants of awesomeness at the People's Choice Awards. *nods*

Great info, Mary! Thank you for furthering our education in the fashion/business ways of our Mikey. :)

Aw, Dirnt is such a sweetie. It's nice to see the boys use their powers for good. Helping young, creative people get started. And as long as it doesn't take away from the making of that next album? I'm cool with it, yo. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

Aw, thanks for this bit of news! I don't know a whole lot about the label, but from what I could tell from Mike's wardrobe, the clothes are really militarily and politically influenced and I basically love anything like that in fashion.

But P.S. I reiterate: Mike Dirnt needs to give me some damn money! I have passion! A passion to change the world through feminist social health theory! Why don't you love me/know me, Mike Dirnt?!

HTML do-over!

Actually, he's not so much a queen, as he is a girl.

Nothing to do with his sexuality, but the kind of guy who never leaves a dirty dish in the sink and irons his dockers kinda guy. I can totally see it!
